Dr James French

Dr French has been a Consultant Anaesthetist in Canberra since 2005 following completion of undergraduate medical studies at the University of NSW and subsequent specialist Anaesthetic training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney.

He is a clinical lecturer at the Medical School of the Australian National University.

He is the Director of Anaesthesia at Calvary John James Hospital and also has clinical privileges at National Capital Private Hospital, Canberra Private Hospital and Barton Private Hospital. Dr French also maintains a commitment to the public hospital system and education of Anaesthetic trainees and is a visiting medical officer at the Canberra Hospital.

He is one of the founding members and directors of Anaesthetic Consultants.

Dr French has established a broad Anaesthetic practice but has a particular interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia and regularly cares for children undergoing ENT, Dental, and General Paediatric Surgery. He also has an interest in the management of trauma. He was previously a flight doctor on the Southcare and Capital Region Retrieval Service helicopters from 2006 – 2011. He has lectured at National and International conferences on the subjects of: blood transfusion, management of fractured hip, and mechanical ventilation.

Dr French is dedicated to volunteering to support charitable surgery. He regularly participates in trips to remote Northern Territory and the Solomon Islands as a member of Paediatric surgical and ENT teams.
